Provenance

One of two compact casks submerged on same date, 18th October 2025, less than 3km from the landmark Urquhart Castle.

Like its predecessors, cask DLNSA2 was made from European Oak, with a light toast and complimented with 12 months of blended Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry seasoning in central Europe's more temperate climate.

The selected first fill for cask DLNSA2 was a 2012 natural strength, unpeated, single distillery malt barley spirit from North East Scotland.

With cask and spirit finally brought together, the journey continued into Scotland’s Great Glen — an ancient geological fault line so vast it can be seen from space. It cuts a dramatic path through the Highlands, running from the Atlantic at Fort William all the way to the North Sea at Inverness. Along this natural corridor lie rugged mountains, storied towns, and a chain of deep, brooding lochs — including the most famous of them all, the 23‑mile (37 km) stretch of dark water known as Loch Ness.

On the day of its evolution, the weather was the most transformative we've experienced. Sunrise was a delicate pastel glory, followed by mist gently wisping across the Lochs surface, only to be replaced by the calmest of days, with mirror-like water reflecting the beautifully sun-lit landscape.

On this day, at 57°20′15.28″N, 4°24′19.57″W, where cask DLNSA2 touched down at a depth of 218 meters (715 feet), the water temperature was 2°C (36 °F). Like all Domhayn casks, having produced its optimal results, this cask will never be used again.

The result, a release of 6 bottles (70cl) at 56.7% vol, presented naturally and non-chill filtered. Bottles 1 to 3 are stored safely in a vault. During 2026, bottles 4, 5 and 6 will be presented for sale, typically via auction.
